Hot Off the Presses

It happened many times under various circumstances, but basically it went something like this:   I would get back to the office after shooting an assignment for the newspaper. Then I’d process, edit, and print. After turning in my prints I’d hear from the sports desk or from the copydesk that my shot would be on the sports front or on 1A above the fold - prime real estate in newspapers. The very first copies of the first edition would stream off the presses around 10:45 that night.
